Choose what to do, schedule, delegate, or eliminate
The Eisenhower Matrix separates urgency from importance. Urgency concerns how soon something needs attention; importance concerns its contribution to your goals or responsibilities. Sorting tasks by both helps you see why a loud interruption may deserve less time than quiet planning.
How to use this tool
- Write a specific task and decide whether it is urgent, important, both, or neither.
- Choose Do first for urgent and important work; Schedule for important work with less urgency; Delegate for urgent but less important work; or Eliminate for neither.
- Add the task, move it when priorities change, and check it off when complete. Review the Schedule quadrant before it becomes urgent.
A practical example
A deadline due today may belong in Do first. Preparing next month’s presentation can go in Schedule. A routine request someone else can handle may suit Delegate, while an unnecessary distraction can go in Eliminate.
Common questions
Does choosing Delegate assign a task to someone?
No. The quadrant helps you decide what to delegate. WClock does not send tasks, notify people, or track another person’s acceptance; arrange delegation separately.
Can I move a task after adding it?
Yes. Use the task’s quadrant selector to move it as urgency or importance changes. Tasks are saved in this browser, so clearing site data can remove the list.
